Rare William and Mary 17th Century Carved Oak Deeds Box of Small Proportions

A very charming 17th-century oak deeds box with deep carved decoration to the freize. The box is very well made for the period with visible through dovetails.

Originally the box would have had two locks, one to the left and one to the right-hand side, this is how we know that it is a deed box.
The idea behind the two locks is that you would have required two key holders to open it. One of the locks obviously failed at some point or perhaps the key was misplaced. One of the original locks, now in the centre secures the lid.

Lovely colour and condition.

Condition

Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Lovely original condition and of very good colour. One original lock present and centred.
