Large William and Mary 17th Century Inlaid Olive Oyster Lace Box

A fine and rare large parquetry inlaid 17th-century William and Mary period olive oyster lace box. 1680-1700, England

The cross-grain moulded top is entirely covered in well-placed oyster of olive in geometric patterns, inlaid with a parquetry star of ebony and box to the centre and to each quarter, opening to a framed interior of olive and baized lined.

Similarly, the cross-grain moulded frieze is veneered in olive oyster.

The box is in superb condition and of very good colour, mellowing over centuries to a lovely patinated finish.

Lace boxes work very well placed on a piece of furniture or on top of a coffee table/ottoman.
