A Magnificent Queen Anne Burr and Fiddleback Walnut Cabinet on Chest, Circa 1710. England
This outstanding Queen Anne cabinet on chest is a testament to the finest English craftsmanship of the early 18th century. Constructed from richly figured burr and fiddleback walnut veneers, it retains its original brass hardware, locks, and bevelled mirror plates, making it an exceptional and rare example of its kind.
The upper section showcases a pair of beautifully patinated mirrored doors retaining the original engraved escutcheons framed by exquisite walnut veneers. Behind the doors lies a finely fitted interior featuring an array of small and long oak-lined drawers, along with hidden drawers, offering a perfect balance of practicality and artistry.
Similarly, the lower chest consists of two short drawers above three long graduated drawers, each with fine oak linings and retaining their original brass escutcheons and handles. This arrangement reflects the elegance and balance synonymous with Queen Anne design.
Adding to its uniqueness, the cabinet is raised on five turned bun feet, lending both grandeur and stability. The proportions are impeccably balanced, while the shaped apron and refined moldings highlight the sophistication of the piece.
