A 17th Century William and Mary Walnut Floral Marquetry Table, Circa 1680-1700

The quality of the marquetry, choice of veneers and overall design firmly place this table within the output of the leading London workshops of the late 17th century.

The rectangular top is centred by an oval panel of flowering plants and birds, executed in richly coloured timbers and set within a series of geometric and floral borders.

The frieze drawer continues the decorative scheme and retains its original bifurcated brass drop handle, a rare survival. The sides are veneered in walnut.

Raised on twist legs, united by a shaped y-frame stretcher, centred by an inlaid marquetry roundel.

The overall design, particularly the use of bold scrolling marquetry panels relate to work associated with Thomas Pistor and the leading London workshops of the late 17th century.
