A Fine 18th Century George II Mahogany Marble Topped Console Table, England
George II mahogany console table retaining a striking Brèche Violette marble top of wonderful colour and movement.
The mahogany base raised on beautifully drawn cabriole legs carved with scrolling acanthus issuing into bold ears and terminating in pronounced ball and claw feet to the front and pad feet to the rear, creating a greater illusion of depth. The frieze centred by a crisply carved shell motif.
A decorative and extremely versatile mid-18th century piece with excellent colour and rich surface throughout. Tables of this type were often placed against the wall beneath a mirror, though equally work wonderfully at the centre of a larger room as a sofa table.

Good. Wear consistent with age and use. It should be noted that this console table is extremely attractive and has rich patinated surfaces throughout.
