A Fine 18th Century George II Mahogany Tripod Table, Circa 1760

This 18th century George II table features a beautifully crafted one piece circular top made from one piece of richly grained figured mahogany, showcasing the natural luster and patterns of the wood. The table is supported by a single, well-turned column that elegantly transitions into three intricately carved cabriole legs. Each leg is adorned with acanthus leaf motifs and gracefully terminates in claw-and-ball feet, a hallmark of 18th-century craftsmanship.

The proportions of the table are well-balanced, reflecting the Georgian era’s preference for symmetry and refined detailing. The table serves as a tilt-top design, a common feature in this period, allowing it to be compactly stored when not in use. The table also features the prized bird cage which allows you to rotate and easily remove the top by simply removing one mahogany wedge. Its mahogany construction indicates it was crafted for the upper echelons of society, as this wood was highly prized for its durability and beauty during the 18th century. This piece exudes both elegance and functionality.
