A Fine Early 18th Century George I Burr Walnut Bureau Bookcase, Circa 1715

A fine early 18th-century George I burr walnut veneered bureau bookcase of diminutive proportions, circa 1715.

In two parts divided by a cross-grain moulding. The upper section has a cavetto cornice above a large single door inset with a shaped soft bevelled edge looking glass with re-entrant upper corners and opens on the original hinges to six pigeon holes and two shelves.

The bureau, fitted with three burr walnut feather banded oak lined graduating drawers below the fall, opening to a finely fitted interior of six pigeon holes above a long drawer and two short drawers, behind the shaped inset silk velvet lined writing surface. Raised on a moulded bases and slender bracket feet

The engraved plate handles and escutcheons are sympathetic old replacements.

Condition

Good. Wear consistent with age and use with a great depth of colour and patination. Restorations in line with age and use.
