A rare pair of large-scale 18th century George II architectural corner chairs
A rare and impressive pair of large-scale 18th century George II architectural form mahogany corner chairs.
Each chair with a horseshoe-shaped top rail incorporating outscroll arms, above a shaped solid vase splat flanked by turned architectural columns.
The square seats raised on cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, united by an X-frame stretcher with central boss.
The quality of the mahogany throughout is excellent, with rich colour and patination. The surfaces have a real depth and natural warmth, with wear consistent with age and use.
Pairs of corner chairs of this scale and quality are extremely rare, and it is exceptionally unusual to find a true pair surviving together.
Currently upholstered in a neutral damask, which sits well with the timber, though this can of course be recovered in a fabric of your choosing.
A highly usable and visually strong form.
