18th Century George II Ball and Claw Walnut Stool on Cabriole Leg, circa 1730
An Important 18th century George II Carved Walnut Stool, Circa 1730-1740 England.
Sitting on four solid walnut carved cabriole legs eared with scrolling leaves of acanthus, scallop shells to each knee and trailing pendant each terminating on well-drawn ball and claw feet.
Covered in 18th century petit point tapestry depicting flowers.
It should be noted that this stool is incredibly well drawn with perfect proportions in original condition and has the most wonderful colour and patination.

Small 17th Century Hague clock made c. 1675 by Pieter Visbagh, who was apprenticed by Salomon Coster. The latter made the first pendulum clock according to the instructions of Christiaan Huygens, the internationally renowned scientist who developed the idea of applying a pendulum to a clock movement.

The bold shape of these andirons relate to designs of Thomas Johnson (1714–1778), one of London’s pioneers of the ‘Modern’ or French style, later known as Rococo.
