Fine George III Eight-Day Striking Mahogany Bracket Clock with Trip Repeat
A fine George III eight-day striking mahogany bracket clock with trip repeat and silvered dial, by Dwerrihouse Carter & Son of Berkeley Square London, circa 1808-1815.
The eight-day twin fuse movement with trip repeat mechanism strikes on a bell and keeps fantastic time. The brass backplate is inscribed ‘Dwerrihouse, Carter & Son, Berkeley Square’. Similarly, the silvered brass arched dial is inscribed ‘Dwerrihouse, Carter & Son’ and below BERKELEY SQUARE’ with subsidiary seconds and ‘STRIKE/NON STRIKE’ dials above Roman hour numerals and minute divisions. The original hands are extremely fine and unusual, swimming like eels to a fine tip, they certainly bring the clock to life.
The fine figured mahogany case with moulded break-arch pediment is surmounted by a gilt-brass carry handle fitted to a moulded plinth, above brass ball finials, glazed door with a gilt brass internal ovolo moulding and fine stop-fluted brass inlaid canted-corner columns.
