Important George II Figured Walnut Caddy Kneehole Desk Circa 1730-1740, England

This exceptional piece, attributed to London cabinet maker Giles Grendey, stands as a superb example of fine Georgian craftsmanship.

The quarter veneered caddy moulded top with cross banded and feather banded detailing. Set above a lap moulded brushing slide, one long, oak-lined drawer flanked by six short drawers on either side of a central cupboard, all cross banded, featherbanded, and fitted with the original open fret handles and locks.

A hidden drawer, shaped as a frieze, is cleverly integrated into the centre, adding an element of discreet functionality with a hidden sprung lock. The sides of the desk are equally impressive, veneered in choice cuts of book-matched walnut and paired with gilt brass handles.

Elevated on a crossgrain convex moulding, the desk rests on original bracket feet fitted with roller casters. All hardware and locks remain original.

This George II kneehole desk is a rare and remarkable find, noted for its originality, fine caddy mouldings, open fret hardware, and original roller casters.

Condition

Good. Wear consistent with age and use. It should be noted the piece is of the most wonderful colour and retains original brass hardware, locks and feet.
