18th Century George III Mahogany Secretaire Chest on chest, circa 1770-1780

18th Century George III Mahogany Secretaire Chest on Chest, circa 1770-1780. England

The moulded ogee and concave cornice includes a detailed greek key design above a figured mahogany frieze. Stop reeded canted corners sit to the side of two short and two long oak-lined graduating drawers.

The moulded base section is fitted to the top drawer opening to reveal a secretaire concealing a central cupboard, pigeon holes and four small drawers, over two long oak-lined graduating drawers raised on a moulded base and all four original bracket feet.

The piece has the most wonderful colour and it should be noted that it bears the original finish which over centuries has become beautifully oxidised. All gilded brass furniture, locks and bracket feet are original.
