Queen Anne Highly Figured Walnut Kneehole Desk, Circa 1700-1720

A rare and particularly pleasiing Queen Anne figured walnut kneehole desk of small proportions, dating to circa 1700–1720

The desk is of classic early 18th century form, the rectangular top above a D-moulded carcus, long frieze drawer, with a recessed kneehole fitted with an unusual and highly practical arrangement of three drawers. This feature is seldom encountered and adds both visual interest and functionality.

The twin pedestals are fitted with three graduated drawers to each side, fitted with brass ring handles and escutcheons raised on bun feet.

The drawer fronts are veneered in figured walnut and feather-banded win walnut , displaying a lively and varied grain with excellent colour and depth throughout. The sides are similarly veneered.

The drawers are oak lined with fine early construction evident in the fine dovetailing and drawer linings.

A particularly attractive and increasingly scarce example of a Queen Anne kneehole desk, notable for the quality of its veneers and the rare internal drawer configuration within the kneehole.
