Rare 17th century South German Renaissance Table cabinet, Augsburg

A fine and rare mid-17th century ebony veneered architectural table cabinet of diminutive proportions, circa 1640. Augsuerg.

The moulded ebony veneered cabinet is surmounted with a gable concealing a hidden compartment accessed via a neat sprung loaded catch to one side. The pair of ebony veneered panelled doors open on the original hinges to reveal a beautifully fitted architectural interior consisting of long and short finely lined drawers, each moulded and retaining the original hardware surrounding the intricate central architectural door. A further four secret drawers are located within the carcass.

The cabinet is of the highest quality throughout and is in an incredible state of preservation, retaining all of the original hardware. Museum grade.

The cabinet was likely commissioned to house small treasures and objects of curiosity.
