William and Mary 17th Century Walnut and Pollard Oak Chest on Stand
A superb Walnut and pollard oak chest on stand from the reign of King William & Queen Mary (1689-1702) England.
The rectangular top with ogee moulded edge, above two short and two long graduating drawers, each decorated with ovals of feather-banded pollard (burr oak) and fitted with engraved handles and escutcheons, elevated on a stand with freeze drawer, twist legs, shaped stretcher and bun feet.
The chest has superb original well-patinated surfaces throughout.

When the most expensive timber of the 17th century met Thomas Pistor. There were, in fact, two cabinet-makers called Thomas Pistor, father and son, working for a period at the same time but at different premises. One or both are known to have made furniture of quality for Levens Hall.
