Late 17th Century Charles II Carved Oak Bible, Deed, Blanket, or Candle Box

A superb and original late 17th century oak box with excellent and deep lunette carving and well-patinated surfaces throughout, circa 1670-1680.

Boxes of this small size are rare and rarer still in original condition, including shaped iron strap hinges lock and shaped strap keep to the face.

We were drawn to this box for many reasons, its compact size of just 27 inches / 68 centermeters wide, great proportions, patination, depth and symmetry of the deep lunette carving, punch decoration, along with the patination/colour and of course originality.

Condition

Good. The box has not been restored but conserved. This item is over 300 years old and is in excellent condition throughout and ready to go for the next 300 years! Wear consistent with age and use.

Dimensions

Height: 9.65 in. (24.5 cm)
Width: 26.78 in. (68 cm)
Depth: 14.57 in. (37 cm)
