Fine 18th Century George I Gilt Gesso Pier or Console Mirror, Manner of Belchier
A fine and rare early 18th century George I Gilt Gesso pier or console mirror.
In the manner of John Belchier
The shaped bevelled mirror plate sits within an upright rectangular moulded frame decorated with Fine leaf carving, lobed corners and a shaped apron carved with scrolls and centred by a shell. The highly decorative cresting is profusely carved with foliage, central mask and flanked by Prince of Wales’s feathers into acanthus scrolls.
Condition
Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Superb condition. Gilding refreshed, soft bevelled mirror plate possibly original with re-silvering. The sconces are most likely later 18th-century replacements.
